Genefinity wins "Start Up of the year" prize

Genefinity conquered today in Naples, the fourth edition of the "Start Up of the year" prize, organized by the PNI Cube association. The spin off company from The University of Trieste operates in the thin film sector, the films are applied in technologically advanced sectors like biosensors, RFID systems and photovoltaic systems. The practical applications of the company, that predicts to increase the yearly turnover to more than 800.000 Euro and that principally works with foreign countries (United States,Germany, United kingdom, Taiwan and Japan), are flexible key-boards, flexible monitors, e-paper and mono-use strips for glycemia and DNA analysis.

"We are prepared technically and until now our objective is the product. Thanks to the prize, we can dedicate ourselves to the commercial sector", says thirty-one year old material engineer Francesca Antoniolli, who graduated at The university of Trieste and that, together with five other colleagues, founded the company in 2006, "and we will do it starting off from Silicon Valley".

"It is an award even more flattering than the National Innovation Prize, because this prize is awarded for the entrepreneurial idea when it has just taken off, whereas the prize we were awarded with, is for the capacity to turn the idea into an excellent productive reality. An important goal, that The University of Trieste together with Genefinity has reached, demonstrating on the field not only know-how for ideating an innovative company, but also transforming it into experience, with evident benefits in terms of economical and social development of the territory". This, the comment of The University of Trieste's Chancellor, after Genefinity was awarded with the "Start up of the Year"prize.

Genefinity has a short history but it is studded with successes. Founded in 2006 by a group of material engineers, this new reality is different from that of its competitors, proposing itself as the only partner that is able to manage the whole development process of the product, from the prototyping phase to the scale-up of the entire structure, in a sustainable and economical manner, trying to appoint the right value to ones work. Having this objective, Genefinity considers prioritary the value of knowledge, investing in its human and economical resources, developing in this way, its passion for scientific and technological innovation and recognizing during the strive towards personal and company excellence, the principal motor of its activity.

In September 2008 Genefinity participated in the "Start Up Trieste" contest, presenting the new project G.H.O.S.T (Genefinity Hi-resolution One-Step Transfer) for the deposition of thin films. After the victory at a local level, it was awarded second place at a national level for the National Innovation Prize, which took place in Milan towards the end of November 2008. During the same occasion, the project was awarded with two "Special Prizes" for "Sustainable Innovation". The results that the company has reached in the first two years of its activity and the particular propension for technological innovation, earned Genefinity acknowledgement from "Nordesteuropa" and "Corriere della Sera" as one of the ten-top regional companies that particularly distinguished itself for its innovative capacity and the development of new entrepreneurial ideas.
