2008 Start Cup Trieste edition
“Ghost” won the 2008 Start Cup Trieste edition, winning first prize of 15 thousand euros. The project “Airdeco” won second place, while third place was awarded to the project “Lsd2”.To these last two projects,10 and 5 thousand euros were awarded respectively. The last part of the university prize, that for years has supported the birth of innovative enterprises, stimulating the entrepreneurial culture and the economical development of the region, took place Wednesday evening at the ex O.p.p San Giovanni theatre and was presented in a most brilliant way by Lorenzo Acquaviva and Stefania Mulé.
It must be highlighted that two “business angels” who stood by the projects until the finals of The Start Cup came from Bic Sviluppo Italia Fvg. They were Edvin Bevk, that followed the “Ghost” project and Elena Colonna that was occupied with the “Airdeco” project. The third angel, that followed the “Lsd2”project, works for the universitary spin-off Eura.“Ghost is an acronym for “Genefinity High Resolution One-Step Transfer” The project, led by Stefano Visintin, proposes an innovative process which consents to deposit thin films with specific patterns onto polymeric substrates.
At the base of this technology, is a certified depository system, that consents to reduce to only one operation, processes that are currently complex and burdensome. This process is adaptable to various applications: industries that have already shown interest in this product are, for example: the bio-medical industry, for the realization of the mono-use kit for glycaemic analysis and the electronic and telecommunications industry for the realization of flexible circuits, smart cards and “Rfid” systems. The other components of the group are Luigi Marras, Nicola Scuor, Francesca Antoniolli and Stefano Maggiolino.
Talking about second and third place, the entrepreneurial idea “Airdeco”(Air quality research development and consulting)aimed at competence integration and at the development of innovative products and services for integral evaluation, the reduction of emissions and the management of air quality, considering urban and industrial environments, controlling emissions and evaluating indoor environments, which can be potentially applied in domestic, historically artistic and prestigious cultural goods environments. Integrated measures and evaluations effectuated according to up-dated approaches in a patented and “scientific state”, can provide a global service to clients that need to solve pollution problems. In fact, the regional territory is particularly poor in this sense. The team, led by Sergio Cozzutto,is made up by Pierluigi Barbieri, Federico Cozzi, Nicola Skert, Gianpiero Barbieri, Luigi Giorgini and Jan Kaspar.“Lsd2” is a system used against web attacks. For web attacks, it is intended those unauthorized modifications of a website. These attacks comprehend visible modifications to the user (defacement), as well as non visible modifications eg: the alteration of a form in a manner that sensitive information is passed from the user’s site to one controlled by the attacker, or else when one has to insert a code on the elaborators of the users who visit the site, and that undermine the security of these elaborators inserting viruses or handling sensitive information.
The team leader of this project is Eric Medvet with Giorgio Davanzo and Alberto Bartali. The three innovative ideas also got access to the National Prize in programme in Milan next November 27th.After the award giving, with the patronage of the Province, the show “La nave fantasma”, by Giovanni Maria Bellu, Renato Sarti and Bebo Storti, who won the Gassman Prize-City of Lanciano 2005 for the best Italian script. The script tells the story of the biggest naval tragedy that took place in the Mediterranean sea towards the end of the Second World War. In fact on December 25,1996,in the sea between Sicily and Malta, a small boat sunk that was filled with immigrants coming from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The victims amounted to 283 persons. It must be remembered finally that the “Start Cup is realized with the funds from the CRTrieste Foundation, of The Chamber of Commerce, the Carigo Foundation, Sviluppo Italia and the Finanziaria regionale Friulia.
