Information: Vanni Lughi received his PhD in Materials (2006) from the University of California at Santa Barbara - supported by the California NanoScience Institute - with a work on the deposition and characterization of aluminum nitride piezoelectric thin films for MEMS-based devices. Here he also got a M.S. in Materials with a work on zirconia-based thermal barrier coatings for aerospace applications. Previously, he graduated in Materials Engineering (1999) at the University of Trieste with a thesis on silicon nitride-based cutting tools.

In 2007 he was awarded the Talents Friuli-Venezia Giulia Fellowship on Renewable Energy, and started working on novel nanostructured materials for photovoltaic applications, setting up a laboratory for synthesizing and characterizing such materials.

In 2008 he became faculty at the College of Engineering of the University of Trieste, where he teaches nanostructured materials and conducts his laboratory research on photovoltaic nanostructured materials.
He joined Genefinity as a partner in 2008, collaborating on thin film processes and working with Maxun s.r.l., a Genefinity's spin-off entirely dedicated to the development and commercialization of novel photovoltaic devices.
